John Caulfield’s third year in charge ended in a familiar result, finishing 2nd in the league to Dundalk. It was a successful year in European competition, City reached the final qualifying round for the group stages of the Europa League, but lost out to KRC Genk.
On the silverware front, City picked up the President’s Cup with a win over Dundalk and the Rebel Army avenged the loss 12 months prior with an FAI Cup final victory over the Lilywhites. Sean Maguire (who joined the club in January 2016) scored the winning goal in the 30th minute of extra-time.
Note 1: Wexford were relegated after losing the promotion / relegation play-off.
