Cork City fell to a 6-0 in the FAI Cup final at Tallaght Stadium on Saturday.
The first half was a tight affair with neither side able to create much in the way of chances with both sides having long periods of possession, City’s best chance of the first half was a Sophie Liston chance on the half hour mark which went over the bar. As the half went on Peamount started to exert more pressure going just wide from a corner in the 35th minute and forcing City goalkeeper Maria O’Sullivan into a save on the 38th minute but the first half ended all square.
Peamount started the second half much stronger scoring on the 46th minute after a quick attacking move which Stephanie Roche finished off with a confident finish. She soon was on hand again in the 51st minute to double Peamount’s lead in a lighting start for Peamount to the second half as they attacked down the right wing and put the ball into the box, City failed to clear their lines and Roche was able to put it away to make it 2-0.
City almost got back into the game in the 58th minute in an excellent City attacking move, Becky Cassin found Saoirse Noonan whose precise long range pass found second half substitute Katie McCarthy, she passed to Christina Dring at the edge of the box but Dring’s effort was just wide of the post.
Peamount put the result beyond doubt in the 77th minute with Aine O’Gorman applying the finish to a good Peamount move despite City protests at offside. Peamount continued to press and finished the game with style scoring a fourth with Karen Duggan applying the finish in the in the 80th minute and Becky Watkins getting the 5th in the 82nd minute.
