Following the FAI's announcement of the first ever eLeague of Ireland competition, we are delighted to announce that verified FIFA player Ciaran "MrWeLLy" Walsh will represent City in the the competition's inaugural season.
The eLOI becomes a part of the EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series tournament circuit and is an Official League Qualifier on the Road to the FIFA e World Cup. The top two players in the eLOI tournament will qualify for the EA SPORTS FIFA 21 European PS4 Play-Offs to be held later this year. Additionally, the overall winner of the eLOI will go on to represent the Republic of Ireland in the FIFA eNations Series 2021 going head-to-head against the top FIFA esports nations in qualification in May 2021, attempting to reach the Grand Finals in the Autumn.
The second Republic of Ireland player chosen to represent their country in the FIFAe Nations Series will qualify via an open online tournament, the FAI eCup which will run across Ireland on April 1st, April 8th, and April 15th with the winner of this qualification series playing in May’s qualifiers.
Speaking after being confirmed as the Rebel Army's representative, Welly said: "It's an honour to be able to represent the biggest club in Ireland on what is now the biggest competitive stage in the Irish FIFA scene. I've been playing FIFA for 10 years, and have been playing competitively for 2 years. I'm looking forward to the kick-off of the eLOI and I can't wait to prove my ability against some of the top players in the country. My goal is to bring the inaugural eLOI championship to City over the coming months."
The eLOI competition kicks off April 6th, with City's first game against Derry City at 5pm. Streaming details TBC.
