Team news ahead of Shamrock Rovers tie
Cork City are back in action on Monday evening, as they make the trip to Tallaght to face Shamrock Rovers in the second round of the Extra.ie FAI Cup. The Rebel Army come into the game after 10 days without a match, having not played since last Friday's defeat to Derry City in the Brandywell, while Rovers were in action midweek, defeating Finnish side Ilves Tampere 12-11 in a thrilling penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw in their UEFA Europa League First Round Qualifying match. It will be the second trip to Tallaght of the season for Neale Fenn's men, and they will be hoping for a different outcome: "It's probably the hardest game we could have gotten. After our last trip to Tallaght, a few of the boys have a point to prove after that performance. We want to go out and do our best. This club has got a great tradition in the cup, we're not going to go up there and put out a team that we think is going to lose, we want to be in it. I think we're a better squad now than what we were when we went up there at the start of the season. There are a few players here that weren't here at the start of the season, so we have to treat it as a totally different game, that it's a fresh start and not be too worried about them." Scott Fenwick was also on media duty this week, speaking about the squad's desire to go out and win the tie: "League form goes out of football when it comes to the cup. It's all about who wants it more. Everyone knows that Shamrock Rovers are one of the bigger clubs in Ireland. It's not as if we're going up there expecting defeat, we'll work together, stick to our game plan and try to win the game." On the injury front, City will be without the services of some key players, while others have returned to training: "Joseph Olowu is out now for a while. Hopefully not too long, but it will at least three weeks anyway. Alec Byrne and Beineon O'Brien-Whitmarsh are back training after injuries, and Uniss Kargbo is waiting for a scan to see what the problem is with his ankle, so we are struggling with injuries. Gearóid Morrissey is back, and we've got Jake O'Brien from the Under 19s training with the senior squad at the moment."
