Cork City FC can confirm that Tom McGrath has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 16-year-old midfielder is in his fourth season with City, having featured for the club’s academy at U14, U15 and U17 level, as well as taking part in the club’s current Munster Senior Cup campaign.
At international level, Tom has represented Ireland over 20 times at U15, U16 and U17 level, and has captained the national side in a number of games, including recent qualifiers for the U17 European Championship and World Cup.
“I’m very proud and grateful to have signed a professional contract with Cork City Football Club”, McGrath said.
“I would like to thank everyone that I have worked with to this point, especially the coaches I have played for, from my schoolboy club, Carrigaline United, to the different managers & coaches I have had during my time so far at Cork City. There have been many lessons learned and experience gained from each of them. Having signed this contract, I now look forward to continuing to work hard, learn and improve further as a player.”
City’s Head of Academy, Liam Kearney said: “We’re delighted to see Tom become the latest player at the club to earn a professional contract. Tom is a hard working and dedicated player, that has progressed from Under 14s through to where he is now, and knows what is expected and required to be a Cork City player.”
“Signing this contract is a proud moment for Tom and his family, for all of the coaches that have worked with him, both in the Academy but also at his schoolboy club, Carrigaline United. Each one has played a part in his development, and is no doubt looking forward to watching his progress at the Club.”
