Goals from Danielle Burke and Lauren Singleton gave Cork City all three points against Treaty United as they staged a second half come back at Turner’s Cross on Saturday in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game.
Treaty got the better start to the game being awarded a penalty in the eighth minute Aislinn Meany stepped up and put away the spot kick to give the visitors the early 1-0 lead. They very nearly doubled their lead as Cara Griffin was played in behind the City defence but Maria O’Sullivan in the City goal was equal to the task and kept the difference at one goal.
At the other end Danielle Burke came agonisingly close in the 41st minute to equalising as she struck a Lauren Singleton corner on the volley but the effort was well saved by Mitchell in the Treaty goal so the first half ended with the visitors leading 1-0. City came out stronger in the second half as Eva Mangan had an early effort in the 47th minute after a mazy run into the box but her effort was easily gathered.
City got the equalising goal in the 61st minute as an Eva Mangan corner was played short to Nadine Seward who played the ball into the box, the ball eventually came to Danielle Burke at the edge of the box and she struck it home to make it 1-1. The winning goal came in the 79th minute as Lauren Singleton stepped up to take a free kick deep in the Treaty half and went straight for goal putting it home with a great strike to make it 2-1 to City which the game finished.
City will be next in action after the mid-season break on the 2nd of July as they travel to the Athlone Town stadium to face Athlone Town in the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League gamewith a 7pm kick off.
