Cork City came out on top winning 3-0 against Treaty United at Markets Field in their final SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game of the season on Saturday thanks to goals from Aoife Cronin and Eva Mangan.
City got off to a quick start nearly taking the lead in the 8th minute when Aoife Cronin got through on goal but her effort went just over the bar. Zara Foley also came close in the 18th minute when she fired a shot that went just over the top corner of the net.
City had the ball in the back of the net in the 40th minute when Christina Dring fired home but the referee disallowed the goal. City came out strong in the second half and doubled their lead in the 56th minute as Aoibhinn Donnelly worked the ball up the left wing and placed it into the path of the oncoming Eva Mangan who struck it home from the edge of the box to give City a 2-0 lead. City were reduced to 10 when Lauren Walsh received a red card after two yellow cards in the 63rd minute.
The player disadvantage didn’t stop City getting their third as Aoife Cronin got City’s third goal. City continued to press for more goals with Shaunagh McCarthy coming close in the 78th minute with a shot that went across goal while in the 80th minute Becky Cassin had an effort that bounced just over the bar and the game finished 3-0 to Cork City to close out their 2022 SSE Airtricity Women’s National League season.
