Cork City are through to the FAI Women’s Cup Semi-Finals after a 3-1 victory against Bohemians in the Oscar Traynor Centre on Saturday with goals from Lauren Egbuloniu, Ciara McNamara and Nathalie O’Brien.
City got off to a quick start when in the sixth minute after Lauren Egbuloniu sent Saoirse Noonan through on goal her effort was parried by the Bohemians goalkeeper but only into the path of Lauren Egbuloniu who put it home to give City an early 1-0 lead. City almost made it two with Lauren Egbuloniu having an effort which was cleared by the Bohemians defence as far as Saoirse Noonan whose effort from distance was well held by the Bohemians goalkeeper.
City made it 2-0 on 18 minutes when a Nathalie O’Brien free kick into the box fell into the path of Ciara McNamara who put it away to make it 2-0 to City. City got their third goal in the 34th minute when an Eabha O’Mahony corner found its way to Nathalie O’Brien who finished well to make it 3-0 to City.
The second half was a quieter affair with few chances for either side. Bohemians pulled a goal back on the hour mark when Abbie Brophie curled a shot into the top left corner of the goal with a superb effort from outside the penalty area. Noonan came close to a fourth for City in the 72nd minute with a free kick which was just off target. City continued to press for the fourth goal but the game finished 3-1 to City securing them a place in the semi-finals.
Cork City are back in Women’s National League action next Saturday 10th of October as they host Galway WFC at Bishopstown with a 2pm kick off.
