Cork City launch Jackie Lennox Commemorative Jersey

Cork City FC has unveiled a new special edition jersey commemorating the much-loved chip shop, Jackie Lennox’s, which closed its Bandon Road premises on this day last year.

The closure of the chipper after 73 years in business made headlines all over Cork with people queuing for hours to get their last Jackie’s.

Cork City FC have collaborated with the Lennox family for a new commemorative supporter’s jersey, which is available to purchase from the club shop in Douglas from today, Monday October 6th.

The white jersey has a retro Cork City FC crest from the early ‘90s and a Lennox’s logo across the front. The jersey has been created by the club’s very own Rebel Army Clothing.

The jersey is available for a limited time only and is priced at €50.

Fans got a sneak peak of the jersey at an event in Sober Lane ahead of the FAI Cup Semi-Final against St. Pat’s.

Speaking about the Jersey, Brian Lennox said: “Cork City FC always supported Lennox’s and we were thrilled when they asked us to collaborate on this special edition jersey. It is very heartening to know that the people of Cork still hold a special place for Lennox’s a year after we closed our Bandon Road premises. It brings us great joy to see the Lennox logo on this new jersey and I hope it is well received by the club’s supporters.”

Peter Moreland, Cork City FC Retail Manager added: “It is a great honour for us as a club to collaborate with such an iconic Cork institution. We, like so many Cork people, were very sad to see it close this time last year and we wanted to pay a special tribute to Lennox’s for everything they’ve done over the years, both for Cork City FC and also for Cork as a whole.”
